Question by : Looking for a new desktop computer! Need your opinions!? I am looking for a new, desktop computer for my house. I have been looking at Macs, but they are a little on the expensive side. There is Dell, HP, Mac, etc. Which one is the best, and why? I dont really have much of a price range, but something maybe under 1,000 if possible! thanks! Honestly, if you aren't computer savvy, and by the sounds of it you aren't cause you are considering a Dell, find a friend who is. Have them build it for you. You will get better hardware than any pre-built computer on the market and spend less.

Build one but if you can't I personally would just spend the money and get the Quad Core iMac

Well a Mac is a terrible choice. It's like paying $ 1500 to live under a dictatorship run by Apple. As far as brands, I'd recommend Lenovo. What you need really depends on what you do. If you just browse, and do word documents and stuff, $ 200-$ 400 would be a good range. If you are looking more for gaming, then $ 600+ should cover your needs. That is, of course, if you buy retail. You could build one for much less. Example: I found a desktop I want for a little bit of everything, but mostly gaming, which costs $ 1200+ for just the tower itself(no keyboard, monitor, OS, etc.), however, I have picked out the parts to build an equally-capable desktop for less than $ 700(including tower, monitor, keyboard, mouse, OS. Pretty much everything you'd need for a computer.) But if you're not tech-savvy enough to build your own computer, find a friend who is. If you don't have a friend who is, just go with retail.

Many places will build one for you. Best Buy and Frys will build you a customer computer based on your needs. But like everyone here has said, building it is the way to go.
