If you have a Mac, you know that your computer is designed to process massive amounts of information quickly and easily. One of the greatest things about Macs is the user-friendly component-you don't have to be a computer genius to figure one out. But when it comes to picking a computer audio interface for your Mac, what do you need to know? Here are some things to keep in mind as you get started:

Consider what is your ideal input/output configuration. The setup can vary - starting with basic, single input devices for guitarists to multiple input and output interfaces designed for professional sound applications. For most users, upgrading to an external 2 input/2 output interface is the best way to get good sound from your Mac Figure out your budget. Computer audio interfaces can range in price from $ 50 to over $ 5,000. The next thing to think about is making sure the system requirements of your top picks are compatible with your Mac. A good way to do this is to browse the company's website or see what other users are saying who also use Macs. If you can't find any user reviews, don't buy the product

By investing a little money into a computer audio interface, you can enjoy amazing musical and audio capabilities. Make sure you do your homework, pick one that's within your budget, and always read reviews on the product before you spend the money. Then get ready to rock 'n roll.

Question by Megan Hunter: Is it impossible to buy a good computer right now? Not to have that title incite a flame war, but I recently ordered a computer. It just got cancelled because Intel is having what sounds like a pretty large recall on their i7 and i5 chipsets, and things won't get back to normal (they say) until end of February to mid April! W-what? No way! Anyway, the particular computer I tried to buy (this was from HP online) was an i7-2600 quad-core processor, 3.8GHz, 16 gigs of DDR 3 ram, a 1.5 terabyte hard drive and a 2 gig Nvidia GeForce 420 graphics card for a total of $ 1300. After speaking with them on the phone, they told me the best computer HP is offering right now is a i7 950 quad-core, 3 GHz version for the same price. (Ugh.) I'm not here to knock HP, since Dell didn't have a comparable one I could see. My question is simply, if I didn't want to wait until April to get a computer similar to these stats (and price, if possible) where should I go? Some friends have mentioned building my own, but honestly I've had bad experiences whenever we try to do that. I'm a software person, not hardware, and would rather buy a machine from someone that comes with a warranty. As far as those stats go, this isn't a gaming computer though I might toss on a Warcraft or something. This is really meant for Adobe CS5 and 3D animation, so if folks have tips for a better configuration I should be shopping for that's definitely welcome. Thanks in advance, ~Megan Best answer for Is it impossible to buy a good computer right now?:

Have you considered AMD? You get a lot more bang for your buck with AMD computers. For high performance pre-built desktops you could try Cyber power. Also sadly yes the desktop market is kind of bad right now. Support is the worst it has been and hardware failures are fairly high. They say your best bet is to go to a private company. http://www.cyberpowerpc.com

just get one with an amd cpu. they have ones similar to the i5 and i7.

Your best bet would be either checking out AMD or getting an older I7 chip since 1366 is still intel's "enthusiast" platform till LGA 2011 is released(not till sometime in the third quarter of the year). Also don't expect to find any CPU's running at 3.8 stock speeds, the 3.8 they listed for your 2600 was either the turbo boost speed or it was factory overclocked.

Well, the answer is yes, but I'd wait. I was also ready to purchase a new Intel Second Generation Sandy Bridge (i5/i7-2xxx) system, but as you rightly pointed out, there is a huge recall underway and no product is available compared with last week. (The issue relates to the 3Gbps SATA hard drive interface ports. After prolonged use, performance can degrade and may eventually fail.) The core i7 950 CPU technology is over 2 years old (i7-920 released Q4 '08), but it's still capable technology. It uses the LGA1366 socket which is on its way out, so there will likely not be any opportunity to upgrade at a later time, if this is important to you. Also, the i7-950 will use more power and thus may require a larger, noisier fan. The i7-950 runs at 3.06 GHz stock and can turbo up to 3.33GHz for single-threaded applications. The core i7-2600K runs at 3.4GHz stock and can turbo up to 3.8GHz which is truly remarkable. The second generation chip performance benchmarks blow away everything else, even the $ 1000+ 6-core Intel i7-980X in many tests. It also runs cooler since its transistors are smaller, and thus the overall system may run quieter. Newer systems will also have support for USB 3.0 which allows super fast transfers to external storage drives. Likewise, newer systems will have support for SATA 6Gbps which theoretically doubles the speed for super fast solid-state drives as they become available in the near future - if you're a performance enthusiast. It's a big bummer for everyone that you can't buy a new Intel Sandy Bridge system anymore when everyone was getting all Sandy last week. If you can stand to wait, I think you'll be happy with your decision. If you must get a machine right away, I'd still wait a couple of weeks and look for price drops as these old systems have to be cleared out to make way for Sandy Bridge systems when they become available again. If you decide to wait, perhaps pre-order the system. It might not take as long as April to fulfill the order. Happy Shopping!
