You may want to spend least possible but you also don't want to sacrifice too many things. Depends on your area but where i live best buy recently had the Asus mini net-books for $ 299. As for microsoft office instead of putting out another $ 100 look into using open source software such as Open Office. Pretty much all of them will be able to connect to the internet and for antivirus. You could use avg free edition or if you can afford it get Kaspersky. I bought from one month a very good Dell netbook inspiron mini & i love it i bought it for about $ 275 features: 1 GB RAM, 250 HDD, Webcam, Wifi...etc you can find it in walmart or frys :-) Good Luck!
