Probably pretty disappointing. I would imagine the power to the traction motors is limited at low speeds to prevent wheel spin.

Suprisingly its quicker than a ford pinto (or most fords for that matter lol). Using todays standard loco of the ave. 4400 hp, it could be guestimated at around a minute or so. yesterdays ave. loco of 3000 hp maybe around 1:30. This being on straight and level track, no load, notch 8, for both generations listed. much like cars, locos have gears on their axles. depending on the ratio (say passenger loco vs freight loco) this would also be a factor. it would be an interesting aspect to see EMD or GE post such a statistic being this is no where near their intended usage. I was lucky enuf to operate a trio of SD40's under similiar conditions. While built for power and stamina, suprisingly, they had alot of hitch in their giddy-up! no load, was straight level track, went from notch 0 to 8 and back to 0. got up to 20mph in nuthin flat! ofcourse under the watchful eye of an experienced loco hostler. this isnt how i would treat a machine like this but also being a race enthusiast of over 30 years, i too admit i have often wondered this very same question.

45 to 60 seconds(that's a guess.I have done that on a locomotive but i didn't time it).An EMD would get there faster than a GE because they respond to throttle input faster.

I know that 0 to 60 in the old EMD GP units is around 30 to 35 seconds. Those older Geeps have a pretty responsive throttle, and there's very little wheel slip just "light engine". Many also have a switch on the control stand too that sets for "Switching" or "Road" service. In "Switching" the generator is more responsive and puts more juice to the traction motors quicker. I know what Andy is talking about with the GEs. Not as responsive. I think maybe the GEs load slower because of all the power they have. Probably to reduce the risk of too much acceleration and pulling a train in half .

What do you do when you are out numbered and cornered by your advancing enemy? There is not much you can do really, except conserve ammo and be careful to place each shot perfectly. In the Vietnam War we saw many a US Marine base camp over run and some, which were able to defend against the enemy and hold them at bay until new supplies and ammo could be brought in. Some of the stories are horrific indeed. And not just on our side, as the enemy was slaughtered and cut down in wave after wave and attracting flies, bugs and disease. What we need is a new battle tactic and one, which we can use which will never fail us. What do you have in mind you ask?

We need to spend R and T money on a device which will allow our boys to step out of time and then move to another location or better location even if it is only three or four hours before or after the event, so that they may reappear and have the upper hand against the enemy. This new battle tactic would be a dream co me true and we must work hard to see it through. Some say such things are not possible and it is merely Science Fiction Fantasy. Oh yes indeed, but so was traveling to the Moon and Mars, sending energy through through energy waves and extending life. All those things are possible and are happening now. So think on this in 2006.
