Dells are your best price for a new computer. Windows 7 is really your only option for OS right now on a new system from a known manufacturer. You can get all the specs you want in a system within your price range from Dell. Acer laptops run Windows OS and a Mac laptop will run OS X. They are very different from one another and use different programs and applications. Just judging by your price range, a Mac is already out of the question (the cheapest model starts at about £850). Acer Aspires and Macbooks are completely different types of laptops in that they are made by different manufacturers and run a different kind of operating system. The latest Macbook OS would be OSX (Snow Leopard), while the newest (and arguably the best) OS for Windows would be Windows 7. All laptops have built-in wireless internet capabilities nowadays and most laptops with a 14" screen or bigger come with an optical drive. If you're a multitasker, you should go for a notebook with one of Intel's new i-chipsets with hyperthreading technology, which makes multitasking a breeze. Try to get at least an i5, although the i3-350 isn't so bad either. Many laptops that come preinstalled with Windows will come with a 60 day trial of Microsoft Office which you can choose to purchase and activate as a full product. Since you're a movie enthusiast, try to get a laptop with an HDMI out so you can connect your laptop to an external monitor to watch HD movies. If you're into Blu-Ray movies, make sure you get a laptop that specifically has a Blu-Ray drive (not just a DVD drive) but remember that those tend to be a bit more pricey. In my experience, laptops with 4GB RAM will come with at least 320GB hard drive space so your 250GB requirement is covered. As for USB sockets, I usually see just three on laptops nowadays, but I'm sure there are some with four. If not, then you can purchase a USB hub separately. Screen size is another thing to think about. If you plan on taking your laptop to different places, then anything upwards of 15" is probably going to be too heavy.
