⢠Battery Life: The laptop came about to meet the need of on the go individuals who needed or wanted to freedom to work, be entertained, or goof around outside the home or office. Consider how much traveling you'll be doing with your laptop in order to narrow down your list to models with the right battery life to match your needs.

Smaller screens make for easier transport and are ideal for those using their laptop for general web browsing and email, while larger screens make for bulkier units but are ideal for watching movies and playing games.
Aside f rom these three main features anyone should consider when buying a new laptop, there are other features that individuals should look for to fit their specific computing needs. Generally speaking people buy laptops for one of three reasons, general computing use, gaming and entertainment, business and travel. These different groups of people are going to have vastly different needs when it comes to buying a new laptop, some of those needs include the following:
⢠General Computing: These individuals use their laptop mostly for web browsing, email, and word processing purposes. A medium sized screen and decent power (3GB Memory and 250 GB hard drive) will suffice just fine for these individuals. Generally these individuals need basic software and hardware included with their new laptop.
⢠Gaming and Entertainment: These individuals use their laptop for playing games, on and offline, watching movies, and burning CDs in addition to web browsing and email. Most wi ll look for a laptop with a larger screen (17.1 inch), lots of power (4MB memory and 320 GB hard drive), and advanced graphics cards to appropriately handle the needs of video game software.
⢠Business and Travel: These individuals have the most unique set of needs when it comes to purchasing a new laptop. Smaller screens (13.3 inch) and ultra thin units are a must as they make transporting laptops much easier. Business travelers need a laptop with great connectivity options and Wi-Fi to help them stay in contact on the go. Additionally, long battery life and a good set of software included to help them remain productive is a must.
Every individual should consider their budget when purchasing a new laptop and adjust their needs accordingly. Some will find that some of the features they desire in a new laptop will put the unit out of their price range. Business travelers, for instance, looking for a thin and sleek design for portability may have to live with a s mall screen as screen size often dictates the size of the rest of the machine. If however they want a larger screen, they can find it in newer ultra thin designs, but these models will significantly lighten their wallet in the process.
More Buying Tips: Laptop Computers TopicsQuestion by : HP Pavilion dv7 laptop vs. Basic imac, which one should I buy? Hi guys, I have an important decisions to make. I want to get a new computer and can't decide between two. The first option is the HP Pavillion dv7 that is around 1,200 euro. The specs are: Intel® Core⢠i7-3610QM 2,3 GHz, 8 Go of memory DDR3, SATA 1 To (5 400 tr/min), NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M with 2 Go of memory DDR3 dedicated), and a full HD screen, plus beats audio. This fantastic laptop goes against the basic 21,5 inch imac. They are almost the same price but I do not know which one to choose. You must know that I will not carry around my laptop very often, in fact maybe only from time to time when I play with some friends... However, I am looking for a gaming machine to play games such as skyrim on it. The mac unfortunately cannot do this unless i install windows on it. You should also know that I have an alienware area 51 17 inch laptop. It is around 5 years old but is still running well. I might upgrade the ram and the hard drive maybe. Which one would you guys choose? What if I took that same laptop against the best imac which is around 3,200 euro? Is it still worth it? To MC: Hi and thanks for your opinion, no I indeed do mean iMac, the desktop. Basically I am trying to decide between a mac desktop (since i already have a macbook air) and an hp laptop... The thing is that my current Alienware laptop basically always sits onto of the desk and never moves so I don't see why I would get another laptop. If i got a new iMac desktop I would be able to use that whenever I want and still have a gaming laptop that I can use if I need to go somewhere. Best answer for HP Pavilion dv7 laptop vs. Basic imac, which one should I buy?:
Answer by MC
I would get the HP laptop if you want to use it for gaming. When you say iMac, do you mean MacBook? EDIT: Oh ok. I think the iMac might be a better option for you. If you aren't going to move around a lot, a desktop will be better. You could always install Windows on it like you said. If your Alienware is still able to allow you to game decently, then an iMac sounds good.
