Question by : Which cpu is better for a new gaming computer: i7-950 vs i7-2600K? I'm completely updating my new computer, but first I would like to decide on which cpu to get. I've heard excellant things about both i7 chips. I'm planning on really making a powerful gaming rig with some liquid cooling, but nothing drastic. Maybe just an H70 for the processor at the most. However, I DO plan to overclock this computer. My overclock will probably be 4.0-4.3ghz at the most though. So overclocking isn't my top priority, but I'm looking for a chip that can do it stable enough to that range. I heard the 2600K has an graphics chip in it, but of course I'll be using either a 580gtx or 570 sli combonation. Which of these chips do you recommend for overall quality? Both of them range around 300-340 dollars in the price, and thats essentially the same price so whichever is cheaper is really no bother. Finally, I know the 950 has an LGA 1366 socket, while the 2600K has a LGA 1155 socket. Which of these sockets is more future-proof? I've heard that 1366 is becoming a dead socket, but on the flip side I've heard that the chance for LGA 1155 become mainstream and widely used is also not very likely. What will the new processors such as Ivy B be based on? Or is that going to be lga 2011? So which do you recommend for OVERALL quality in gaming and overclocking ability, I'd love a best of both worlds. And why do you recommend it please. The 2600k is a much better cpu overall. The socket WILL be mainstream and lga 2011 will be the high performance enthusiast socket. IVY b will be on lga 2011

You're going to want to go with the i7 2600K on a quality p67 MOBO as opposed to the i7 950 on an X58 MOBO. Why? Because the i7 2600K (Sandy Bridge) is built on a more efficient 32nm process and is around 15% faster clock for clock than the Nehalem based 45nm i7 950 do to optimizations to the 2nd gen "Core" architecture. The 32nm SB chips will overclock better than the older 45nm chips as well. Some users have been able to reach 5GHz on air with the 2600K. It just doesn't make much sense to go with X58 now that p67 has been released, unless of course you need the multi-tasking power of the hexa-core 980x along with triple-channel memory. That said, an OCed i7 2600K trumps even the $ 1K 980X in some multi-threaded benchmarks. In games, the i7 2600K always performs better.

One way to buy a netbook with good technical specifications at cheaper prices is to consider used or refurbished units. You can find advertisements on campus from other students that are off loading their current netbooks because they wanted to buy the latest model from Appl e, Lenovo, Asus etc.
Otherwise, check out the cheaper Acer Aspire netbooks. These entry-level units have very good specs and features for the price. For example, they even come with built-in media card readers and webcams to make it easy for video conferencing or uploading photos from your digital cameras. If you want these from other netbook makers such as Sony, you may need to pay another $ 200 more.
