Just buy a PC and install the Mac OS on it, aka a Hackintosh. It's not that simple obviously but you can find out more about it on google. As to why they don't reduce their prices, it's basically because they put a lot more design into the things that they sell than most PC manufacturers do; the Macbook Air for example. There are other manufacturers making laptops as thin -- if not thinner -- than the Air now, but Apple was the first manufacturer to make one. That, and they know that you'll pay extra if it means not getting viruses. About the components inside Macs: usually they pay extra to the hardware manufacturers to "cherry pick" the better GPU dies so they run cooler and take less power - and they do this for other pieces of hardware as well - so theoretically you're buying some parts of slightly higher quality. As I tell everyone though, if you don't want viruses, A) don't go to shady porn websites or accept files from people that you don't know, B) Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is your best friend, and C) never download any free antivirus program without researching it first. In my five years of building PCs for myself and others I've never installed an antivirus (aside from MBAM) on my own computer, and I've never got any viruses either. It's nothing more than a Mac scare tactic if you practice some common sense.

I agree with the above. But there is one other point about the cost. They have been advertising mercilessly and they have to recoup that cost. So, you're paying to see that snobby little $ #!T on TV tell you that you're a loser for buying a PC...
