The HP would be a better move in my opinion. The Dell is ok and I really love AMD processors but this one is low on the pole and the machine has a sub-par graphics card. Not that the HP is any better but the Core2 will perform better and the GeForce 7100 will outperform the Dell. Coupled with a nice sized hard drive, combo optical, media reader, its a nice machine for the price. I would tell you to build your own but $ 300 gift card at best buy is hard to pass up.

Here's a few main points: 1. A 17" widescreen is VERY small (even compared to a slightly larger 19"). 2. Neither PC will play new games at ALL. They both have what is call "integrated graphics". This means they do not have a physical graphics card plugged into the motherboard, but simply an embedded chip on the motherboard. Since there is no real graphics card (thus no memory dedicated to graphics), these on motherboard chips simply steal memory from the system RAM (this causes all sorts of slowdowns as system RAM is swapping video/graphics memory within itself). All store bought PC's us integrated graphics as it saves the companies tons of money. 3. AMD X2 chips will be slower than Intel Core 2 based chips of the same GHz. As you can read, the X2 4400+ is clocked at 2.3ghz while the e2180 is at 2.0ghz. Taken into account you cannot overclock store bought PC's (Dell, HP, Gateway, etc.), the AMD X2 PC will perform better in every task. As I said before, neither have a real graphics card. In a first-person-shooting game like the one in the graph, you want about 40 FPS to have smooth gameplay, and the cheaper card can't even deliver that.

hey dude use the $ 300.00 toward a wide screen monitor at bestbuy,and save up and build your own system and stay away of the name brands ,too hard to OC,i built all mine from tigerdirect.com except for the case i purchased the aliencase for $ 60.00 from xoxide.com just built this last month all for under $ 1600.00 minus the wide screen but not the $ 4000.00 and up like alienware wants i saved abit on taxes /have status card anyway you get what you pay for like, anything else i play crysis maxed all out no lag whatso ever, not toomany people can say that!on the following/ winxp pro/q6600 go oc 3.4ghz/asus formula special edition mob/crossfire ati 512s/2gb corsair/2x 150g raptors/thermal bigwater /750 antec psu, but if all you want to do is surf and play lowend games go see ebay they might have something more in your price range , peace
