... the best times of the year for PC manufacturers. It's a logical time for parents to buy their high school and college-bound kids a new machine, not to mention all the frantic retail bundling that happens in Best Buy (BBY) and Apple (AAPL) stores ... Apple Goes Back to School: When Will Students Make the Move to iPads?

Apple has been making gorgeous all-in-one desktops for many years now. They have also been touted as one of the best all-in-one PCs in the market. In this article, we are going to take a closer look at the Apple iMac MB418LL/A 24-inch desktop and what is has got to offer.

Cons: At the time of writing, the Apple iMac MB418LL/A 24-inch desktop costs around $ 1400 each. This model has an Intel Core 2 Duo processor (2.66Ghz), 4GB of RAM and a 650GB hard drive. For a similar price, you can get 8GB of RAM and a 2TB hard drive (on the HP Pavilion Elite M9600T). But then again, all-in-one PCs are known to be more expensive.

To date, this is my third iMac and I can't help but to notice that its viewing angle is a little narrower than my older iMac desktops. The glossy screen is really stylish but easily reflects any lights in the background. Although many improvements have been made to the new Apple iMac MB418LL/A 24-inch desktop, there just aren't many inte resting hardware features on this model compared to other regular Window-based desktops.

Pros:The Apple iMac MB418LL/A 24-inch desktop is one of the most affordable all-in-one desktops in the market. It is a real bargain to get a 24" screen at this price. Among Apple computers, this model is one of the best bargains.

Thanks to its powerful graphics chip (NVIDIA GeForce 9400), it was a delight to play games and watch movies on the Apple iMac MB418LL/A 24-inch desktop. The color dynamic range was good and the blacks were pretty deep.

The design of this model is worth mentioning. It has a very small footprint, taking up very little space on your desk. The ports are neatly lined up behind the screen and the overall design is very stylish. Like all Apple computers, the multi-tasking speed on the Apple iMac MB418LL/A 24-inch desktop is top notch.

Question by : Are Macs worth the high price? So I will need a laptop for college and have been getting excited over Macbook Pros. I will be entering as Political Science/ Pre-Law so I will need room for lots of papers. Campus supports both Mac and PC. I hate Dell and Acer (bad experiences) So my question is, are Macs worth the price? Windows 7 is ok in my opinion on my HP desktop although I liked XP. I've used PCS forever but I love my iPod Touch and my mom's iPad. Here's the way I see it: PC: -cheaper -easier to work on- replace parts -do not last as long generally -more popular Mac: -run much longer (several friends have macs that are 5, 6 and 7 years old that work great) -seem better build quality -Apple Genius bar (don't have to send computer off to have harddrive wiped) -Software (Garage band, finalcut Pro, OSX) -hella expensive -easily download updates -user friendly (not a huge issue) -I like having a physical store to go to brand specific, not like Best Buy I will not get a macbook air, as it has no USB or CD drive What do you guys think? Best answer for Are Macs worth the high price?:

Answer by Rish
i'd say go for a pc. parts are cheaper, software/apps are cheaper etc easy to update too u know, just have to run windows update as for the macbook. how will u manage without USB ? i mean most things are transfered via USB ( ok cd is kinda old now) but USB is very important. idk i would go for a pc

Answer by Vomit
Ultimately, that's a question you'll have to answer for yourself. Go play with some display models and figure if the pros outweigh the cons. Y!A is not a good place to find advice. Most people here aren't exactly the brightest crayons in the box. And the Air does have USB ports. Dunno why you'd think it doesn't.

Answer by Crysis
Vomit is right. Mac vs PC is purely a subjective decision. Broadly speaking, it doesn't really matter which one you get. After all, both will get the job done.

Macs are defiantly not worth the price you'll end up paying for. Most PC's for the same price you can get far more RAM, better processors, and way more hard drive space. Look into HP laptops, personally I think any HPdv6 and HPdv7 are far greater than MAC's.

Well, let's start by analysing the points you put out: -run much longer (several friends have macs that are 5, 6 and 7 years old that work great) Not strictly true, depending on model and amount of use a Mac can be worn out in the same amount of time a PC can. Some Macs are notorious for overheating and cannot be easily fixed (this is especially the case with higher-end Macs with i7 CPUs). This'll kill its lifespan. Conversely, I've had Windows computers which have lasted six years plus and still work just fine. -seem better build quality Again, this varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. Cheap PCs are often terrible build quality and won't last, but if you pay more for well known brands (which you'd be doing if you bought a Mac anyway) you're guaranteed quality building. As mentioned previously, overheating doesn't sound like good build quality to me, so it's not like Macs are perfect in this department. -Apple Genius bar (don't have to send computer off to have harddrive wiped) ...and you would have to do this with a PC? Not sure what you're getting at with this one. -Software (Garage band, finalcut Pro, OSX) Subjective, but pants in my opinion. Very dumbed down and often unprofessional software only good for amateur work. That being said a lot of professional software is also available for Mac in addition to PC, but never Mac exclusively. -hella expensive Damn right. -easily download updates Same with PC, assuming Windows. -user friendly (not a huge issue) Same with PC, assuming Windows. -I like having a physical store to go to brand specific, not like Best Buy Well, that's your opinion but it's not like you'd have to go there more than once. The best way to pick out a PC is to know what the difference is between the specs and buy one which sounds sweet for the price. TL;DR: Macs are expensive. Macs are not worth the money. Macs are not worth any money.

Answer by Jack Dyson
I'd say that they were worth it for the visual experience, technical support, included software and build quality. However in terms of hardware, no. Today, I found an Acer desktop computer which had the specs of a high-end 2011 iMac for just £350. Now if I could just put Apple's operating system on it... then I'd be happy :)

You need to consider only one thing in answering this question. Remember this, everything a Mac can do a Windows Based PC can do + A windows based PC can do everything a Mac can't. Most game/software manufactures do not make their products available for Mac users leaving you behind in the ice age wile PC users are ahead of the game being able to utilize software/games you dream of using/playing. To me this statement alone proves who is superior in the computer industry & is always the better choice. Why pay more for less when you can pay less for more? Never truly understood why people buy Mac but I admit if they would bring the price down & have more contracts with company’s then I would suggest them over PC anyday. Let's look at the big picture - MacBook Pro 13 Inch Start at $ 1199.00, 15 Inch start at $ 1799.00, 17 Inch Start at $ 2499.00. Now down in source I found you a top of the line Windows based PC that not only has either the same if not better hardware as the 17 Inch MacBook Pro for $ 599.00 cheaper. Compare the top of the line MacBook pro to the one I posted in source & it will explain everything when you look at price per performance. Don't I repeat Do not let anyone tell you that Mac's are virus proof because that is one of the biggest lines of BS. Apple has brainwashed there users into believing this because they use it as a selling point when in fact Mac OSX can be infected much easier than Windows. The only difference is that Mac systems are not as popular as windows so your hackers/virus makers don't waist there time infecting apple products as much as windows. Why waste your time infecting a few 100, 00 when you could infect 100,000,000 with all your hard work? I own a Computer repair shop & I’m here to tell whoever believes Mac osx is virus proof that you are utterly 1000% wrong & deserve to be slapped because Mac happens to be at least half of my business. Why do you think I down them so much? It does not benefit me in any way it’s just truth.

Answer by Horace
From a software point of view mac os x is far better than windows, it is faster (use your system's resources more effic iently), does not get viruses, and harder to be hacked and the list goes on and on. Look at most top tech people most of them go with a mac. From a hardware stand point the equipment in a mac is pure quality you get what you pay for, one outstanding hardware feature is the battery life, you know over time with a regular laptop the battery wear out quiet easily people who usually have a windows laptop live at the power outlet, not so with a mac. Most of all macs look better :) if you buy a mac now don't look to be buying another laptop anytime soon.
