Question by : Which netbook is right for me? I am interested in buying a new netbook for myself in the near future. I'm interesed in a netbook primarily because I'd like to have a lightweight, low-cost computer that's small enough to slip into my purse. I've been looking around at some netbooks, but I haven't found exactly what I'm looking for. Here are my specifications: PRICE: under 400 bucks, preferrably well under that SIZE: 10-11 inch screen & under 4 lbs. PROCESSOR: needs to be good enough to comfortably browse the internet, use Photoshop and Microsoft Word, watch videos, and occasionally play Minecraft and flash games without too much lag (a little lag is okay) RAM: at least 2 GB, more if possible CAMERA & CD DRIVE: not necessary OPERATING SYSTEM: Windows 7 COLOR: not really a big deal, but I'd prefer that the computer is available in either white, green or purple -Also, before you ask, no, I don't want a desktop or tablet I would love to hear any recommendations for netbooks that match my specifications. Sorry, there are no netbooks that will meet your specifications. None at all. What ruins your chances is your desire to run Photoshop, which only runs on a desktop with more than 4 gigs of RAM. Photoshop runs better on 8 gigs or more. You say you don't want a desktop, but you will be unsatisfied trying to run any professional programs on a deliberately underpowered netbook or laptop. Guaranteed. You get what you pay for. Go cheap, and you take the consequences. Also, the netbook market is dying out as people realize how poorly made and inferior they are.

In the areas you mentioned they are more alike than different, you'll need to look at some and consider the ways they are different instead like keyboard, run time, sleekness, brand vs availability of replacement battery later, screen quality and resolution. Generally with computer tech newer is better/faster/etc. but also more costly. What falls under your price range could depend on how long and diligently you look for sale prices and being ready to jump on a deal since good deals sell out quick. Go for the newer AMD fusion platform based netbooks not the older Intel Atom ones, BUT you did not mention where you are located, with location sometimes making a big difference in what a netbook costs.

I bought Acer Aspire One AO722-0473 11.6-Inch HD Netbook at Target, where it is only $ 299. saving me $ 29. It also has a great return/exchange policy. It was easy to set up and runs very nicely--much more quickly than I was led to believe for a netbook. I have already watched video (runs smoothly, no blips).

A netbook is a small portable computing device and has a screen size of 10 inches or less. Most standard netbooks are powered by an Intel Atom chip. There are some netbooks that have been designed for gaming and HD video but most standard netbooks are developed for 'typing and skyping'. These netbooks are basically for surfing the web and be able to write documents online and offline.
There are four factors you need to look at when considering a netbook, which are the battery life, keyboard and touchpad, weight and other factors.
Firstly, we will look at the battery life of a netbook as this can vary in the number of hours it can be used for. A battery can last from 3 to 14 hours. As general rule, you will not be getting the full amount of time through the battery as you are likely not to be in the lowest energy mode all the time. If you planning to use your netbook whilst you are travelling, it is best check the battery rating when purchasing your netbook.
Secondly, we will look at the keyboard touchpad. A keyboard can often be called a "chiclet" or an "island" but this is down to how large the keyboard is. The keyboard could be become the most significant factor in your purchasing decision as if you are a person that type 100 wpm (word per minute), then you are probably going to need a larger keyboard compared with a person that can type 60 wpm or less who can adjust their typing speed when it is small to medium size keyboard.
A touchpad will have a right and left click buttons and the touch area where you will move the mouse cursor across the screen. A touchpad may have other capabilities such as pinch and pull zooming technology whereby it enables you to use your two fingers to zoom in and out of the screen.
The third factor to be considered is the weight. Netbooks that have a longer battery life using a 6 cell battery will tend weigh in about 1.1 kilos. But there are netbooks that will be using a 3 cell battery as well. You will find heavier netbooks beyond 1.1 kilos but this due to the extra features it may have such as high definition video or offers touch screen capabilities. You do not want to purchase a device that is more than 3 lbs as you will end up carrying around a computer with some heavy weight attached.
Other Factors to Consider:
• Does it have a Glossy or Matte screen? If you are working in a bright area then you do not want the netbook screen having too much of a reflection.
• An outlet for microphones/headphones - important if you using a webcam to communicate with people.
• Bluetooth - essential if you want to do mobile computing.
• Price - if you are on a budget it is important to get the best laptop deal for you.
