Very few things provide as much entertainment for the price as cheap gaming computers. A good gaming system can provide hours and hours of entertainment for friends and family. I know this because I spend several hours a week playing computer games with my brother who lives in a different state, and very few things bring us together like playing games online.
Cheap gaming computers provide the latest in technology, graphics, and sound. But you won't get anywhere at all with a crappy computer. You have to have the hardware to run the games, or you will not enjoy your online gaming experience.
Some people think that you cannot get a decent gaming system for less than $ 1,000. I disagree. If there are several options you have when you are looking for cheap gaming computer. You can buy one off the shelf, you can all go online, or you can build one yourself.
If you're looking for a great deal on a gaming desktop, do not go to a general merchandise store. They do not carry the types of computers you're looking for. The computers they carry are geared toward the general public for word processing and internet access.
So I suggest that if you want to go to a traditional store to find your gaming system, then you visit a store that caters to the gaming community. They will have all the information and knowledge you need to make a smart purchase. They will be able to fill you in on the graphics cards, power supplies, and cooling features that you need to play games online.
It is good to have an idea of the hardware requirements for the game you want to play. You don't want a gaming system that meets the specs, you want a cheap gaming computer that beats the specs. Don't buy enough to just get by today because as games are released, they require more and more hardware. If you just buy what you need today, then you will have to buy another gaming system in a few years.
I still think that you'll find the best cheap gaming computers online. There's just so much competition that companies are dropping their prices more and more. Plus you can do an amazing amount of comparison shopping in just a few minutes online that you can never do in a traditional store.

Cyberpower,Inc is my favorite--I bought 2 from them as I believe they give you the most for your money. You can still get XP there also--I dont like vista,have it one one of my pcs. iBUYPOWER is another one that lets you configure your own pc.

Cyberpowerpc is a great site, in terms of the builds they offer. Biggamingrigs.com is very good as well. You might also give Magic Micro a shot. If you're building from scratch, then NewEgg.com has the best prices on components, usually a bit better than Tigerdirect.

Well, for 800 dollars you can't get a good gaming computer. Well, if your talking about playing like HL2 or CSS then yeah, you can probably get a good enough computer for that cost. But if your talking about playing the newer hardcore graphics games, like crysis, company of heroes, etc. then your not going to have the graphical or computing power to run them on even medium. I just had a friend buy a computer a few months ago for about 900 dollars that plays crysis on high-very high (with no AA obviously). This is because he bought all the parts separately and made his computer himself. If you really want a hardcore custom system for cheap then build it yourself. If you want it really cheap then consider buying the parts off ebay. You can get a 8800 GTX off ebay for like 250 bucks, where as they are more like 400 new. I realize that you probably don't want to hassle with building your own computer, but its just someting to think about. I would try www.TigerDirect.com or www.Newegg.com for a pre-built pc along with components. I personally bought my computer off of TigerDirect about a year ago for 700 dollars. It could run most every game that I played on high graphics (I played games like CSS, HL2, etc.) Since then I have bought components and ended up upgrading my whole system to different parts, with the exception of my HDD and my CD/DVD drives. What I'm saying is that if you really want to buy a pre-built PC then you can always upgrade it later on.

Cyberpower charges too much for the parts. I know they are a business but I build high-end gaming rigs and if I charged what they do for parts I wouldn't have any customers because my rigs already start at $ 2000. Try a build with a Corsair 450watt PSU, P35 board, 2GBs of DDR2 1066 XMS, E6600 Core 2 Duo (E8400 if you can swing it) and an overclocked G92 8800GT. I run 64bit Ulimate in my gamers cuz XP and DX9 are yesterday's news with the high-end gamers but the OS alone would take about 1/4 of your build budget. May want to go with Home Premium. Use a case with good air flow. If you use a windowed case you can always add the eye candy later as led fans, UV light tubes, UV cables, controllers etc can easily add $ 50 to the build. Althou it wont run with the big extreme rigs it wont cost 2-5 grand either and will satisfy most on a tight bud get. I don't know if you can build it for 8 but it should be close.

Yo I would check out Velocity Micro. They're a little more expensive than cyberpower but you'll get WAY better service. They have a couple of $ 799 models too. I got one a few months ago and will never get anything else. It's an amazing PC. velocitymicro.com
