Question by Right Choice, Ph.D: Need Help Deciding Which Computer is the BEST choice in terms of Speed, Performance and Graphics. Please Help? I'm mainly going to use my computer for design purposes with Adobe CS5 Master Collection and streaming videos. QVC offers a fairly priced collection and i have my decision down to these two computers. I just want the one with the fastest performance & the best graphics. People tell me just look at the RAM and the higher it is would be the better one. But cant i just simply purchase more RAM if the laptop isn't already maxed out? Also what about the graphic card and the Core processor? How do you "turbo charge" a computer?? Can someone simply point out which one of these two is just simply the best and why please? the intel is definitely the faster of the processors. the dell also has the better graphics. That being said, the hp has the bigger/better screen which is not something to underestimate. I have seen a 1366x768 resolution on a 14" screen and its not very impressive, up that to 15" and it will be worse. Want a better option in the same price range? check this out..... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220996 Asus is better than dell or hp, it has the quad core version of the intel cpu in the dell so its faster than either of these, it also has the same graphics setup as the dell and a screen with 1080p resolution. Asus also includes a 2 year warranty including 1 year of accidental damage.

The Dell is better, and yes you can easily (and cheaply) upgrade RAM if that's something you want to do in the future. It literally takes two minutes at the most. The link to a third laptop posted in the comments is also true - Asus makes really good laptops, and the one posted is better than both the Dell and HP.

The HP has a higher res display, but is weaker in both CPU & Graphics performance against the XPS. It should be noted one is a 17inch system and one 15inch so you need to know if your intending to carry the laptop around there is a noticeable difference in size and therefore weight. For outright performance the XPS wins, for storage the HP wins, for USB 3 support the XPS wins, wireless n = draw. Battery life = draw (both have optimus which switches graphics between discrete and integrated), DVD & Bluray = HP wins (however display is only 1600x900 so not full high def i.e. 1080 so unless you plug into a high def display rather pointless). If it was me I'd go for the XPS - better overall performance in both CPU & Video speed important if you intend to play any games. See if you can upgrade the screen resolution it's the only thing holding back the XPS

Notebooks are typically designed with a price point, to match performance with a range of moderate to good capability and may perform very well for most of today's user application needs.
A good notebook can easily do most any computing that is needed with reasonably good performance and has the advantage of complete under-the-arm computer portability and fits on top of your lap or any flat surface top.Desktop computers range from very small to large boxes that are designed to run off AC wall power and left in a fixed location at a personal workspace-desk or area in a cabinet as an application server.
