Some of the best computer service might be down the street from where you live, and definitely easier to get help when you don't have to ship the computer across the country. Mom and pop shops have to work harder to compete against the bigger companies, so you might get better service there. On the other hand, if you are talking bigger companies, there is a balance between what they charge you and what service you get. A company that makes no money because there margin is 2% instead of 4% can't afford to support you, they would go out of business. In essence, I would rather pay a bit more to get better quality service. Also, service is highly dependent on what you know. If you are smart, you can buy anywhere since these pieces all come from the same factories. If you are trying to set up something crazy and you need help, online won't help much. My favorite sites for price shopping (check each one) are www.amazon.com www.buy.com www.newegg.com www.shop.com www.outpost.com Then there are tons of more specialized shops, like for batteries, memory, etc. You should list a bit more what it is you are shopping for, then one could point you to more specific sites.

The one big benefit of checking with a local source such as this, is that they will have staff available that can answer any questions that you may have while you are looking for what you need.

The Best Prices are Always Online

You can start by checking with any one of the online venues that carry computer hardware and you can rest assured that there are more than a few. The benefit of shopping online is that you will always be able to find the best p rices and selection too.

Check Out the Online Auctions

Another place to look for computer hardware online is at any of the online auctions. Remember that there is more than eBay now, so take the time to check with more than one. One thing that you will also want to remember to do when shopping at an online auction, is to take the time to read the feedback on any seller that you are considering buying from.

New Used Or Refurbished Computer Hardware

Bear in mind when you are in the market for computer hardware that you have the option of buying new, used or refurbished computer hardware. However; bear in mind that while used parts my have the lowest price tags, there is always the risk that they may be defective or prone to breaking down earlier than you may have hoped for.
