Apple is rumored to be readying an "iPad Mini," to compete against the Kindle Fire (and the Nexus 7). ... HP makes a multifunction monochrome laser printer (print, copy and scan) for about the same price as the printer you have now. [. ... Microsoft ... Any good tablets besides iPad, Kindle Fire?

Did you know that 3 years ago netbooks were not even present on the market? And by netbooks I mean these ultra-compact laptop computers that revolutionized the notebook world, accounting for 20% (in just 2.5 years) of the sales in this domain.

Netbooks are in fact small laptops with smaller displays and lower power hardware, but still capable of running the daily applications you usually use on a computer. Their advantage comes with the reduced size and weight (weigh around 2.5 pounds, while regular laptops weigh at least 4), their huge battery life and affordable price (a standard netbook goes for around 300-320 bucks, which is a lot less than a regular notebook does).

All in all, netbooks are great secondary computers to use when on the road and can satisfy the needs of most users. And while the first netbook entered the market in fall 2007, today there are hundreds of them available. All the big brands, including HP, Acer, Asus, Sony, Dell or Lenovo have at least one, plus there are tons of other versions from China or Japan.

From all of them though, a brand rises above the rest: The Asus EEE PC. In fact, the first netbook was an EEE PC from Asus. This is the name that invented the concept and managed to keep the flag high during all these years, although competition was and is fierce. And while Asus does not sell the most such mini laptops these days, their products are known to be the best, providing a great mix between features, performance and decent price.

There are many types of EEE PCs. In fact, so many that Asus had to divide them in smaller brands, like the EEE Touch (where the tablet netbooks are included), EEE Diary (for business man always on the road) or the EEE Seashell (which includes the standard devices with a fancy clam-shell aspect). IN fact, i believe right now there are tens of Asus netbooks available, and more are to come lately.

But what makes them the best? Well, they have the best in terms of hardware and features, they come with great looks (and there are some designer edition too), they are very solid built and have proved quite reliable. Like i said, they are perhaps 5-10% more expensive than some others, particularly the Acer netbooks, but I for one would pick an EEE PC over an Acer Aspire One every day. And others too, as the Asus netbooks are the most popular on developed markets in US, Canada or Europe.

All in all, if you want to get the best there is a netbook, go for an Asus EEE PC. No matter your taste or needs, you will find something to suit them all. And you will surely be satisfied with it on the long term.

Question by Savvy: Buying the HP Mini Netbook...? I want to buy the HP - Mini Netbook with Intel® Atom™ Processor N270 but there is just one drawback: the Hard Drive. The computer only has a 16 GB HD, and that is kind of a problem. Microsoft Office 2007 takes up about 1.5 GB (correct me if I'm wrong) so now I'm down to 14.5 GB on my HD. I went to Best Buy and the attendant lady said that they sold a version with more HD (I think she said either 60, 116, or 160 GB, I can't remember which). The lady also said that it would only go up about $ 40 in price, which means it's still only about $ 390. They didn't have that version in the store, though, so she said I had to check the internet. I went on their website but I couldn't find one with that much HD. I'm not that good at looking for things on websites like that so...could I have some help? Is there really such a thing? Thank you so much! Also, if you could/would provide a link for me that would be grand. Best answer for Buying the HP Mini Netbook...?:

What are you wanting this for? You can get the windows xp version on the Acer Aspire One for $ 300 now. I managed to install Vista to it, but xp runs ok on it as well, also the HP one was actually the slowest one out of all the netbooks, trust me i researched. My girlfriend ended up buying it for me, and neither of us regret it. I have office 2007 enterprise edition on it, thanks to a friend who gave me theirs because they liked 2003 better. Specs on the Aspire One: Atom N270 1.7GHZ cpu 1GB Ram 160GB Hard drive Windows XP Home Edition

I was looking at the netbooks yesterday. it said it uses a 16 gig solid state drive ( like a thumb drive) It said to use a external drive hard drive. It will have USB. It wont have a optical drive either. Dell has 15" laptops with regular hard drives and a DVD, 2 gigs of ram and XP for $ 449.00 (60 bucks more than netbook) This Dell is the cheapest one and is better than the netbooks I think the novelty is what people want. I wouldnt mind having one but a regular laptop isnt much more. i think it comes with linux.
