Depending on what you paid for you laptop most of the time it is cheaper to replace the whole laptop.Next unless you are sure you can take apart the frame unhook the wires and then reveres the steps and put the new one in then do not attempt it.

Replacement screens can range from $ 600 to $ 1000. I can promise you - whoever looks at it will recommend buying a new laptop. Laptops shine with protection plans like from Best Buy. You can treat the laptop like a football and they don't care. If it breaks, they give you a new one. You're also entitled to a battery replacement within the first year of having the laptop. If you don't replace the battery within the 1st year, call 888-BESTBUY and they'll send you one anyways, letting you keep both.

go on ebay and look for a parts machine that has a good screen but a shot drive. then you could take it to your local vo-tech co-op and have one of the students change it out. just an idea.

Depends on the model of the Vaio, and the size of the screen. Since you indicate wanting to get it done by somebody, it depends also on how much they'll jack the price, of the LCD screen up! Sorry if that sounded crude, but it's true. That's the way most businesses work, that involve the repair of a product. Raise the price of the part up a little for a profit, (And to cover shipping plus tax), and add your labor. Average price of a laptop screen YOU, yourself can buy, is anywhere from $ 185 to $ 300. Average price of labor to install is $ 100 to $ 225. I've bought laptop LCD screens from Ebay, and everything has been okay so far. Can't say who or where, because that is advertising, and is against Yahoo Answers policy. Mine too! If you knew how very EASY it is to replace that LCD screen, you'd be mad at yourself! YOU CAN DO IT! 1.You remove the AC adapter if plugged in. (Charger) 2.Take the battery out 3.There's a flat plastic strip in front of the keyboard, and below the LCD screen. This is popped up. If there are any wire connections to it, these are unconnected. NONE of them are the same, so reconnecting them isn't a problem. (Kind of the square peg fits in the square hole kind of thing) The wires may be for LED lights in that strip. There may also be speakers in that strip. 4.There are 1 or 2 flat wire cables that you will see now. These/It go from the body of the laptop over to the LCD screen. There are small connectors. You just un-connect the connectors. Male connector to Female connector. 5.At this point you may see that there are plastic hinge covers. These cover over the hinges for the LCD screen, to the laptop body. You just pop them up and off also, just like you did for the flat plastic strip. OR, you may have the design where the hinge covers, are part of that flat plastic strip. 6.Now you are at the hinges themselves. Usually you will see twop screws for each hinge on this side. Should be Philips head screws. Shaped like this -> + A.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_F._Phillips It may be a Torx head screw. These look like a 6 pointed star. B.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Torx_screw.JPG I haven't run into any Torx heads for hinges yet, but this doesn't mean there aren't any out there. Torx drivers are available in very inexpensive sets you can buy, at any hardware or auto parts store. Walmart probably has them. Put the screws in a clean egg carton. Label each egg holder, when needed, for where the screws came out of. If you have a digital camera, take photos as you go along. Use good lighting. Make notes. Looks sorta' complicated here, but it's just because I'm giving detailed info. It's EASY! Turn the laptop around so the back faces you. There will be 1 or 2 screws on the backside, for the hinges also. These may be hidden by a tiny rubber cover. The cover is small and hard, and feels like plastic, until you take a tiny object, and pry it off. It's held in place by a sort of glue. (Maybe rubber cement?) I use a small jewelers screwdriver. Flat tip style. About $ 5 for a set at Dollar General! lol! Now you can ease the top cover/LCD screen combo up. Should come right off the body of the laptop. Lay it down on a towel, on the table you've been working on. Around the LCD screen is a plastic frame. It's called an LCD Bezel. The bezel is popped up a little at a time by easing that flat tip jewelers screwdriver, between it, and the top cover. If you look, you'll see where the two meet, and a slight crack is formed. Ease the flat tip in, and wiggle it a little to get it in deeper. Then push down on the end of the screwdriver, and pop the bezel up a tad. You'll hear a POP sound. Almost sounds liker you broke something. You didn't! You's have to run a truck over this to break it! Keep working along the edge. Pop Pop Pop Pop, until you're all the way around. The bezel will come off in your hands, before you get to the last part. See the screws around the metal frame, holding the screen in? They screw down into the top cover. Remove them. (6 or 8) Take the LCD screen out with the metal frame around it. Remove the screws, that hold the hinges to the metal frame. (4 or 6) Edit: $ 600 to $ 1000? Yeah right! Muhahahha! 3.http://www.screentekinc.com/Sony__VAIO_type-family-notebooks-lcd-screens.shtml 4.http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/LCD-Removal/laptop-lcd-screens-repair-removal-instructions.asp 5.http://www.screentekinc.com/lcd-removal-instructions.shtml 6.http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/Sony,Laptop,LCDs-Displays.aspx Ebay 7.http://computers.shop.ebay.com/items/?_nkw=sony+vaio&_sacat=31569&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1311&_odkw=&_osacat=31569 8.http://repair4laptop.org/disassembly_sony.html 9.http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/category/lcd-screen-repair/ 10.http://www.insidemylaptop.com/category/7-sony-laptops/
