I bought a dell a couple of years ago. Since then I have replaced the keyboard twice, the motherboard twice, the fan and the modem. I will never buy another.

The laptops themselves are no better or worse than others. The customer service from Dell is horrible! I prefer Toshiba Satellites myself...same price as the Dell, but more power and options! Good Luck

I have an Inspiron that I got three months ago. I love it. OF COURSE I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT COMPUTERS BUT IT WORKS FINE FOR WHAT I DO. Ebay, chat rooms, etc.

I love my Dell laptop. Great performance. Zero problems. However, I own a near top of the line model (in the $ 3000 range). You might not have the same experience if you get one of their $ 500 models. Dell is the king of one thing though....compenent compabtibility. If you build a system on their website, what you get WILL work and have no compatbility issues. It will also be of high quality for your money.

I use a Dell laptop for work. Overall it has been good and I like it, but I have already had the motherboard replaced and the keyboard after having it for 18 months. At time of purchase it was about $ 2,500+ in cost. I have had very good experience and found good value in the Acer Aspire laptop line. Acer is a Taiwanese company that has been in the computer business for many years. See my previous post at http://answers.yahoo.com/question/;_ylt=AmvxOLm5dm2wazn3tkrM0ZgjzKIX?qid=1006041212179 for more details. That answer was rated as a best answer so I hope it is helpful to you too. Good luck!

I got an Inspiron 1200 about a year ago and the only thing I did was add more RAM. I use it about 8 hrs a day. No problems at all. But Dell customer service is the absolute worst. Good luck trying to get a live person if you go thru their voice mail.

I prefer the Latitude series. They are cheaper than the XPS systems, but have better performance then the Inspiron.

In a highly competitive market Dell laptop and notebook computers are known for value, dependability and performance. By selling factory direct with no middleman markup Dell has been able to provide top featured computers at the best prices available. Dell now includes free delivery which is an added value feature.

In buying a laptop computer you must first decide on what features you need. If the computer is to be used only for casual internet surfing and emails, for instance, you do not need a blazing fast machine with a lot of memory and a high performance CPU processor. One gigabyte of RAM memory will be more than enough and for many users even less than that will do the job. A CPU of around 1. 5GHZ to 2GHZ is sufficient. A basic machine will do the job nicely for you and you can save quite a bit of money by looking for a used machine to fit your needs.

If the laptop is going to be used for business purposes you will want a faster processor and plenty o f memory. You will also want to have software installed to handle your business needs. Microsoft Office is the standard software which is used for most business purposes. You might also want a book keeping program such as Quicken. You do not require the latest top speed dual core or quad core processor for most business purposes. A lower cost middle of the road processor from Intel or AMD will more than suffice. One gigabyte of RAM memory will handle all your requirements quite nicely. Again if cost is a concern you should consider a used or refurbished laptop which will cost considerably less than a similar new machine.

If your laptop computer is going to be used for gaming you will want a top performing CPU and a lot of memory. You should be looking at a dual core or quad core processor and 3 gigabytes or more of RAM memory. Anything less will mean slower action which is not what you want. Two or more USB ports are needed and the bigger the screen the better. You are looking for a top of the line computer to fit these specifications. Used models are harder to find in this range of machines but there are a few to be had at a saving.
