This probably won't get "best answer" but you could do what I did. On Thanksgiving afternoon last year, I went to Best Buy and waited in line (was #16 in line) to purchase my Toshiba laptop for $ 225.00. (Price included a Canon printer.) It was cold and windy and snowing that night, but I love that laptop--and the story about how I got it. (Would also have been interested in the cute guy that was #17 in line--if I were 20 years younger and single!)

laptops that are mass produced for places like office max or staples are cheaper cause they make so many the same. I suggest just getting a mac with the education discount at apple.com. there new computers last twice as long as any pc and i love my macbook. and you don't have to waste money on virus protection, and you get free shipping, and the OS X opperationg sy stem is so easy to get used too. you and do anything on one that you can do on a pc but better. the hardware is much better. and the spec. on there computers are very good and would cost a lot more to have the same thing in a pc because it would have to be a custom pc. it would be your best route to go. they have an instant online chat service for question while you shop too.

Shop at a reputable dealership and trust the professionals who should ask you about your computer needs. They should know what computer you will need. If they don't, you're at the wrong place. Go to Circuit City... They have professional staff.

watch the back to school ads in your sunday newspaper, here you find rebates, sales and clearance computers and laptops. They have some awesome computers on sale. I just got my navy blue gateway 2 months ago for their tax sales at bestbuy. I recommend Office Depot, Walmart or BestBuy as your best pricing options. Also the best laptops in my opinion are Dells and Gateway. Had mine for 2 months and NOT 1 issue at all! Fast as lighting and only $ 600. They have cheap cheap laptops on nestegg.com, like $ 300 but who knows how long that will last. If your not looking at getting a brand new out of the box laptop, look in your local newspaper or craigslist.
