I think you ordered too much ram on your dell, 2GB is enough! But I think the current Dell would be better than the gateway you mentioned.

I bought my son a dell laptop similar to what you have listed. It lasted 2.5 yrs in Alaska and 16 months in Iraq. About 6 months after he got home the screen finally crapped out. I'll go with Dell anyday.
