Question by o.davis: Where can I get a energy efficient laptop,so the electricity bill won't be so high? I know that some of you might be funny and say that the best one is to not get one at all, ha...ha....ha. Well anyway, the laptop i have now is a eeepc 1000hd mini that has a fast processor (unlike the other hp netbooks with those slow processors that many complain about), but this fast processor is spiking up my dads electricity bill and I would like to buy a more energy efficient one that uses less energy and has a longer battery life. I've researched a couple of the types of batteries used in laptops and I don't want to get a laptop with a lithium ion battery in it. Does anyone know of a good energy efficient laptop I can get, one that's a low price around $ 400 bucks and also has a touchscreen for a monitor. I would like to draw on my computer without needing to buy those expensive drawing tablets, and no I do not want to get a macbook due to the lack of the batteries they use. thanks for you're help guys. the adapter input is: 100-200v and the output is: 12v there's also something else on the adapter that says V85, which I think means volts, not watts. I don't mind getting an energy efficient laptop, it helps keep the electric bill down, which won't be a problem for me when I get my own place, but I also don't want to make my dad paying the bills harder than it already is, especially on how the economy is going. Best answer for Where can I get a energy efficient laptop,so the electricity bill won't be so high?:

He's just BSing you. Laptops usually use between 45 and 65 watts. That's the equivalent of leaving a light bulb on all day. You're never going to recoup the investment you make with the laptop purchase compared to 'saving' on an electric bill.
Answer by ÊÉ"ıɯ
a laptop uses the same amount of electricity as a light bulb. a mini uses as much as a night light. i don't know what's causing your energy spike, but it sure ain't the mini

First off a single computer wont make much of a difference in the electric bill. And unless you want a netbook you aren't going to find a new computer for $ 400 bucks especially one with a touchscreen. Also the cheapest Mac book is like $ 1500. Save the money from buying a computer and pay the bill with that.

unless you have a server built in your room not the small home types ,laptops and pc's rarely pull no power and the only ones that do is custom built pc's,the one you have is energy efficient,something else is causing your father electric bill to be high,{air conditioner,that big home entertainment system,all those light on,washing machine,heating iron,electric range,electric heat water heater,etc.}

I looked up your laptop model online, and it uses a 36 watt adapter. That's less than most incandescent light bulbs (60W) and similar to a compact fl uorescent light. 36 watts is low, for a computer. Mine uses about twice as much, and it's rated with an energy star. It's probably adding pennies to your electrical bill. Unplugging your TV would make a mammoth difference in comparison to your laptop. If you're looking for a touch screen laptop/netbook around your price range, there are some listed here: http://www.alltouchtablet.com/articles/best-convertible-netbook-tablet-pc-2538/ http://www.alltouchtablet.com/touchscreen-tablet-news/best-touch-screen-laptops-3445/ There are no mentions of power consumption though.

There is not a laptop that I know of without a Lithium Ion battery (there is Lithium Polymer, but its very similar). I know that its annoying that they degrade over time. If you leave them at 0% or 100% or use them a lot whatever you do, in 2 years it will not be as good. But today's lithium ion batteries I would assume are better than the one in your old netbook. Just to let you know, a mini laptop like a netbook (even with a faster processor) does not use very much electricity at all. I'm guessing you got one with an Intel Celeron instead of the slower Intel Atom. Even if you get a new netbook with today's Atom processor, and cut your power consumption in half (say the old one uses 20 watts and the new one uses 10 watts); what's 10 watts?!? An air conditioner uses at least 1000 and probably 3000 watts. However, if you are looking for a new laptop anyways, there are only a few choices when it comes to touch screen laptops in the $ 400 price range. Not sure about the price, but these are 3 tablet netbooks. http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=qdwslBLhhfuw43HS Slower and more efficient Atom Z520 processor, Solid state hard drive, and eco friendly battery (so it says). I'm not sure on the price though. Also only a 9" screen http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/config.workflow:ConfigureMtmAsItem?mtm-item=:000000F3:000029BD: More expensive (probably) but has Atom N470 processor and 2GB RAM. 10" screen. http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=xK9O0XZhFswxrTrn Probably somewhere in the middle in terms of price, Atom N450 processor, 1GB RAM. 10" screen.

Labtops do weigh on your energy costs throughout the year; as does units that use electricity. They all add up come bill time. When it comes to having energy efficient computers, use your power stand by mode, look for energy star savings tags and compare the cost savings across brands and models.
