If your canny and go to sites such as YoYo Tech you could price up a decent desktop for much less than that. It would mean building it yourself but I believe they also do full systems, Def worth checking out.

Selten, you can get a desktop computer for $ 400 The parts inside most namebrand machines are similar As far as customer service goes HP is one of the best Go to www.bestbuy.com or www.hpshopping.com One good one is the HP Pavilion a6560z The base machine is around 449.00 It has a dual core 2 Ghz Processor, 2 GB Ram and 320 GB HDD (actually they are offering a free 640GB hard drive upgrade - that is a ton of space) a Card Reader for downloading your digicam shots, Lightscribe DVD Writer and all the standard components Excellent high quality computer for daily and power user activity The video card is average. If you want to do gaming - upgrade that to the 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 9300 for another $ 80.00 You're just a bit over the $ 500 mark Cheers

Manufacturers wholesale boxes that get returned or models discontinued. Wholesalers sell them, often on eBay. For example; 2-3 years ago I bought a Dell 2400 2Ghz, 512MB RAM, 60GB HD, FD, CDRW drive + CD ROM drive, etc, with a Dell warranty, for $ 250. You can also get loaded boxes from techno geeks that are selling to finance the next super box they want to build. Dell, IBM are good, HP, Compaq, Gateway, etc cheaper. eMachines cheapest. Look for any that provide rescue files on the HD or rescue disks. They reset your PC to factory settings if a virus get in, or things just start getting real slow. Retail; WalMart, Comp USA, Office Max, Staples have some "Packages" that are reasonable. Some throw in free printers, cameras. Dell & IBM seem to hold up best. Had 3 HP's 2 eMachines and a Compaq. All crapped out in 2-3 years, usually video cards.
