I have a Toshiba satellite L-305 series it is an all around good laptop with vista and wifi internet just like any other today but it is extremely nice for its price. i got it at best buy for like $ 600.

sure. office depot usually has at least one computer on a "crazy" sale with both instant savings and a rebate. I bought mine for 425 with 100 instant, 50 rebate. ^^ hehe the one i bought for 425 was the toshiba L305-S5921.

Dell! Dell works really well and doesn't crash often. (I have never had it crash) And also, they come with cool designs on the covers! I have friends who have dell computers and they LOVE them. Also, Compaq is good too! I have one and it works pretty well. It has maybe one or two disadvantages, but it is worth the price you pay for it (which is about 350$ !!!)

Don't buy a dell. I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and it constantly crashes because it's not properly ventilated. There's only one fan in the back. Like, if your wife wants to watch anything on her lap or something, she won't be able to. They heat up really fast. If I could change the computer I got, I'd get a Compaq, Toshiba, or an Acer. Those would be the best.

I'd go with a Dell like some of the other poster's. I have bought several Dells from their outlet store, you get a good price break and a warranty that is the same as brand new. usually these are returned new computers that the customers just returned. They have to call them "refurbished" they can't be sold as "new". As far as particular screen size you can customize your search for screen size, ram, processor, ect. http://www.dell.com/outlet
