Get a core2duo with 2GB of RAM. If you play games get an 8800gts, if not any cheap video card will so. Get a 500GB hard drive. Should cost around $ 2000 from a decent computer store.

not a such thing if you want to buy off shelf. best way is to build it yourself. no skills? pay someone to do it for you, it will be cheaper than the pcs in the stores. think of it: the major stores have to pay all the staff, the rent for the place, taxes and make profit!! all that is coming out of your pocket. this is what i build a month ago for 380£: 1.8 Ghz intel Core 2 duo proccesor asus micro atx motherboard 2gb ddr2 pc 5300 memory 512 mb ati radeon X1650 pro video card 500gb hdd space in 2 hdds, raid 0 20X dvd-rw buit in card readers 400w micro atx power supply micro atx computer case and you also have a choise on the design, thinking that you will buy the pc tower yourself. cheap monitors can be found on amazon. i just got a 24 inch ACER monitor for only 260£ !!!! think of how much would itt be in the shops! over 500£ ? the prices i gave you are for top notch components, you can go for cheaper ones if you please i forgot: dont go for laptops, not only that the store will milk your pocket, but the technology itself is poor when comparing prce/performance ratio VS desktop pcs. maybe you can get good deals on old laptops, but i would wait for 'asus eee' to come up on the market. expected aug-sept
