Question by Baseballer9: Can an LCD TV be used as a computer monitor? My mom will not let me have a TV in my room and I am hoping to get a PS3 or X BOX 360 at Christmas. Unfortunately my family owns a rear projection TV which is good for television but not for high quality graphics such as the PS3 or X BOX 360. I was wondering if an LCD TV could be used as a computer monitor and if so can you hook up a Playsation3 or XBOX to that monitor? What are the best LCD monitors for a low price? You can hook up a computer to an LCD TV. Most of them have a VGA input. It looks like the blue thing on the back of your computer where you plug in the monitor. A computer monitor will not work with a PS3 or XBOX though.

an lcd tv can be used as a computer monitor. make sure the lcd tv you are buying has a computer input(vga or dvi) then just make sure your computer you are using has a vga or dvi socket i recommend that you buy a new video card so the picture will be better but it isnt neccesary (nvidia geforce 6200 or better)(look at tigerdirect.com) you could hook up a 360 or a ps3 to that monitor also you just need to plug into one of the other inputs (component,hdmi, etc) you can swith between inputs using your tv remote look on best buy or tigerdirect.com the best deals for tvs would a lcd hdtv 32" 720p or 1080i or 1080p these should cost between 400$ and 500$ buy brands like sony,lg,samsung dont buy non name brand(even if they are cheaper) cause they can suck hella much

Yes but the refresh rate on a LCD TV is not sufficient to use for long periods of time looking at text. It will give you serious headaches if your goal is to use the LCD TV as a computer monitor for even the simplest tasks of using the web and e-mail. What you want will of course work as others have mentioned, with a HDMI/DVI or VGA input (I have had success with each of them) but it will not be even close to the text quality of even the cheapest computer monitor. If space limitations are your problem and you can only have one television, then get a good, large, computer monitor that also has extra inputs to let it double as a television. For simply price, convenience and performance reasons, it is best to get a separate LCD TV & Computer Monitor. It is difficult to find one that performs both tasks flawlessly.
