Be ready to spend some cash if you want anywhere approaching good graphics. Anything you're going to buy in the 500$ -to-1000$ USD range isn't going to be able to handle graphics that well. For a good gaming laptop, you've got to be ready to plunk down well over 1000$ USD. Also, if you're into games, you might want to avoid Vista for now, It's a real performance hog and doesn't really offer anything extra that Windows XP can't give you.

Sounds like you don't need more than a basic computer. I can't say which one is the best on the market since that is up to opinion or lots of certified testing but I can tell you what I have had good luck with. I have an HP laptop that at the time was the cheapest one I could get. It's a good internet surfer and has a built in wireless card and has performed great since I bought it. HP is available just about anywhere and the price is usually great. Wal-Mart eve n carries them. I suggest at least a gig of RAM if you are going to do any gaming though. Try some online places like Pricegrabber or Yahoo shopping, both will give you teh best price on what you are looking for and are searchable with ratings. Yahoo shopping even has featured merchants that have great ratings and perform well. Usually, you can also find free shipping somewhere. Good luck in your search and remember, buying online can online will usually get you the best price but if there is any issue there is the shipping back and all to worry about. Take that into consideration.
