Question by : When looking to buy a desktop bundle am I better off buying from Best Buy or the Internet? I am in need of a new computer ( a desktop) for my classes. My main uses will be word processing, internet research, and basic media tasks. I currently have a laptop, but want a desktop computer. I am unsure whether my best bet is to buy off the internet, or through a store. I would like to keep the price under $ 700 and preferably get a bundle deal with monitor included. My personal, biased, opinion is: avoid Best Buy like the plague. I've heard people say they've wronged them when purchasing a computer, etc. And very much avoid taking a computer in for service there. They're very very bad. I wouldn't take a computer I didn't like to Geek Squad. I'd take my chances iwth the internet. Tigerdirect is a good site.

The best deal you could get would be from someone you know personally that builds computers. Markup from stores is ridiculous. For the same price as a junky computer on sale at BestBuy, I got a gaming computer from my friend's dad. Under $ 700, easily a tricore with a good video card and processor with enough left over for a decent monitor. Sorry, I don't have any direct suggestions, but try asking around people you know, you'd be surprised the deals you can get by knowing someone. Other than that NewEgg is pretty good on deals. http://www.newegg.com/

It really depends you buy it from, if the store is only online repair and warranty is more of an issue to fix because they may not have a physical location to go to.
