Question by : What is the best Mac for the home? We are looking to invest in a Mac but are not sure which one to buy as we are new to apple computers. We are looking for a computer that is reliable when it comes to gaming, fast internet browsing, and virus protection. But in the end we are focused mainly on speed of the computer. the mac desktop called Mac Pro is your best shot but it's out of your price range. customize one from the mac website to your liking i would look at upgrading video card (if possible) the most until you reach your price of 1750. That is going to be your gateway to gaming and videos, media, etc. A good video card vs a bad one can make a poor computer look amazing. Also, because it is a mac i would stick with the apple operating system, they are not that bad, but if you feel like windows would run more games (which it probably does), you can set it up that way if you like, i have windows xp 32 bit, and windows 7 64 bit, and they both run flawless, believe it or not windows 7 starts up MUCH faster then xp... even though its got all the colorful goodies with it.

Check out the iMacs at apple.com. There are two sizes and several different prices. The entry level 21" is under $ 1200. It is fast, it has great graphics, will play games well (and if you install Windows on a partition, it will play Windows versions of games). Since there are no MacOS X viruses, you can't get one. If you put Windows on it, that partition could get viruses. The iMac includes a wireless mouse & keyboard & almost all the software you need.
